Leaving on a jet plane...

Hey Peeps!

It's that time of year again... I'm heading out on tour to promote my new book Liesl & Po! The upside: meeting cool new people and my amazing readers/fans, hanging out in awesome cities, and having a legitimate excuse to partake in copious amounts of takeout.
The downside: packing a bag with a month's worth of essentials and living out of a suitcase. Ugh! Now, if I could only figure out what is REALLY necessary... Something tells me my new Keurig coffee machine won't make it past the metal detectors.
Help a girl out! What are your travel essentials? What do you bring with you for just that extra bit of comfort on the road?

If you're like me and love reading, then instead of packing a million books with you, get an e-reader. If you don't feel like buying books, just read first chapter samplers along the way. They're really compact and convenient.

Hello Lauren, I'm from Brazil, I read his book,''''Before I go, I loved him very much! Congratulations, and we expect a Brazilian for their visit here. (Sorry for the bad English) I have a literary blog too, and I'm a writer.

I've been told to pack versatile pieces that work well in a number of outfits. But I'm probably not the person to offer advice, since I'm the type to take four pairs of shoes for a weekend trip. Maybe these ladies can offer better advice: http://www.academichic.com/2011/04/02/weekend-workshop-on-questions-of-travel/

I travel a lot for work... particularly out of the country. It always surprises me how much I want to bring and how little of it I actually use. Here's how it usually works out:

The Essentials:
* Mix and match outfits -- if a top can go with more than one pair of pants or vice versa it's automatically more likely to be packed.
* Know exactly how many times you have to be seen in public in a professional sense. If you're comfortable in your "work" clothes then plan to pack fewer clothes for lounging about/doing stuff outside of work.
* Any beauty product you use--but in a smaller container.
* Don't pack a hair dryer--every hotel room has one.
* Chargers--for cell phones, laptops, iPads, e-readers, iPods, cameras, etc. I've learned that a lot of my devices can be plugged into my laptop to charge with a USB cable that has a mini-USB on the other end so rather than taking one cable for each device I only take one cable that works for most of them. It's a lot smaller and easier to pack. If you're taking a laptop bag (I recommend one that rolls) you can usually pack all of these with your laptop cables.

The Comfort Items:
* At least one outfit that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable for lounging around. I never leave home without a pair of comfortable pants and a t-shirt that reminds me of relaxing at home.
* E-Reader--I hate being on the road without books and for a long time I'd pack 2 or 3 for a trip only lasting a week. When I'm home I'd 100% rather have a printed book in my hand, but nothing beats my e-reader for the road.
* Home tokens--for me this is a picture of my husband and a small stuffed animal. May seem silly, but there's something about having them along that makes the hotel room seem less foreign.
* Know what things you can get there that are comforting. For example--I'm a bit of a coffee snob. So when I'm on the road I always make it a point to figure out where the nearest Starbucks is. I've learned that you can get an iced caramel macchiato in any country. (They were my saving grace on my first trip to China!)

I don't know if that's any help, but I can completely empathize with you about the pain of packing! Every time I think to myself "this should be easy--I've done it a dozen times" and every time I still find myself going back and forth over whether I've got everything I need or too much.

Good luck!
